Under Dan Fellman’s tenure as President, Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures has become the only studio to gross more than $1 billion domestically for 11 consecutive years as well as have 52 movies earn more than $100 million domestically. In 2011, the Studio amassed a domestic box office tally of $1.83 billion and opened 9 films in the number one position.
In 2011, Fellman and his team oversaw the domestic release of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2”; “The Hangover II”; “Horrible Bosses”; “Final Destination 5”; “Crazy, Stupid, Love.”; “Contagion” and “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows”; among others.
During his tenure, Fellman and his team have handled the domestic distribution for the record-breaking films “The Dark Knight” (the third-highest domestic grossing film of all time) and “The Hangover” (the highest grossing R-rated comedy of all time), along with some of the Studio’s most popular and successful titles, including “Sherlock Holmes,” “Superman Returns,” “Gran Torino,” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” “Batman Begins,” “300” and “I am Legend.” Additionally, Fellman has overseen the Harry Potter, Ocean’s and Matrix series, as well as the Academy Award-winning films “The Blind Side,” “Million Dollar Baby,” “The Departed” and “Happy Feet.”
Fellman, who moved up to his current post in 1999 after serving in a series of executive positions at Warner Bros. Pictures Domestic Distribution, joined the Studio in 1978 from American Theatre Management Corporation, where he served as president. Based at Warner Bros. Pictures’ Burbank headquarters, Fellman is responsible for the strategy and oversight of distribution for the Studio’s theatrical and non-theatrical motion picture releases in the United States and Canada.
Fellman is a past chairman and board member of the Foundation of the Motion Picture Pioneers. He is on the board of directors and the executive committee of the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation and a past president of the Variety Club Children’s Charity. He is a member of the Lollipop Theater Network advisory board as well as a member of the Watts Cinema and Education Center advisory council. In addition, Fellman serves on the Executives Branch Executive Committee, the Nominating Committee and the Museum Committee of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
