On April 23, 1985—lo just 30 years ago to this day—a change was foisted upon this nation that was never asked of it. A sweet, bubbly, re-branded and all-around strange change that polarized family, friends and co-workers. That change was New Coke. And though its life was short-lived (it was pulled off the shelves of supermarkets, bodegas and convenience stores everywhere within just a few months) it has gone on to live in infamy ever since. The takeaway? There's just no replacing an original.
And speaking of American originals, our favorite crooner has a slew of classics coming to Blu-ray for the first time ever. The Frank Sinatra Blu-ray Collection will tap, hum, shuffle and serenade its way to fans on May 5. The collection includes:
Anchors Aweigh — with a pretty amazing animated dance sequence with a certain mouse
On the Town — with Gene Kelly, knock-your-socks-off choreography and breathtaking cinematography of the city of New York
Guys and Dolls — co-starring Marlon Brando (Brando and Sinatra in the same film!)
Ocean's 11— need we say more?
Robin and the Seven Hoods — a re-telling of the Robin Hood fable set in the Depression-era Chicago
Mark your calendars for May 5 and enjoy a classic with a classic.
