(April 17, 2007 - New York, NY) — AOL announced today that it is teaming up with “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” to create a unique online program that invites Americans to share photos, videos, and stories about the entertaining people, places and events in their lives. The program will be produced by AOL and Telepictures Productions, an industry leading and Emmy Award winning producer of syndicated programming. During the course of the program, which runs in the fourth quarter of 2007 on AOL, (http://www.aol.com
), “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” will select stories about users’ hometowns to feature on a recurring segment. More details will be announced on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” at the beginning of the show’s fifth season in the fall of 2007.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be working with ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ on this exciting program. This is a great opportunity to let people share their stories, their pictures and videos in a fun and interactive environment, and create a virtual online scrapbook,” said Mike Kelly, President of AOL Media Networks. “It also shows how AOL can marry the interactive nature of the Internet with traditional media to create something totally new and very special.”
Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres adds that the town or city could be highlighted for many reasons including, “A great mayor or a beautiful town square or a rich history base in turnip farming. Get ready to get to know America — one town at a time.”
“This new program will allow Ellen viewers and AOL users to literally put their town on the map – Ellen’s map,” said Hilary Estey McLoughlin, President, Telepictures Productions. “This is a logical extension of Ellen’s already strong online platform. Ellen connects with viewers in every medium — from stand-up performances and her television show to major hosting duties.”
Currently in its fourth season, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" is a syndicated one-hour talk show that highlights the observational brand of humor that host Ellen DeGeneres perfected as a stand-up comedian. Adding her personal warmth, insight and talent for tackling topical discussions and in-depth interviews, her unique style touches every aspect of the show. “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” is the only talk show in the history of the Daytime Emmys to win three consecutive awards for Outstanding Talk Show in its first three seasons. The show has recently been nominated for 12 Daytime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Talk Show and Outstanding Talk Show Host, more than any other talk show this season. The awards will be presented on Friday, June 15, 2007.
AOL and “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” will unveil the program at the AOL First Look event in New York City today, along with several other new programs, including “Gold Rush Goes Hollywood,” Ye Olde Shrek the Third Royal Tournament,” Million Dollar Bill,” and “iLand.” AOL First Look is the first time an online network has announced a series of major-scale programs at a single event, similar to traditional upfront events in the television industry.
