“Alex Haley’s Queen” DVD From Warner Home Video
(October 24, 2007 - Burbank, CA) – Warner Home Video is proud to announce the DVD release of "Alex Haley's Queen," the remarkable saga of the "Roots" author’s paternal family history, on January 15, 2008. In honor of Black History Month, the entire 4.5 hour award-winning miniseries will be released for the first time ever on DVD in a 2-disc set. Adapted from the piece that Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Alex Haley was working on at the time of his death, acclaimed producer David Wolper ("Roots," "The Thornbirds") brought this incredible story to the small screen.
"Alex Haley's Queen" recounts the story of Queen (played by Academy Award® winner Halle Berry), the child of a slave woman and a male plantation owner, and her life as it unfolds through the turmoil of the Civil War, Reconstruction and the early 20th Century. Just as Kunta Kinte became an iconic character when "Roots" premiered in 1977, "Queen" serves as another example of triumph over adversity during a difficult era. The DVD features an all-star cast and outstanding performances by Halle Berry, Danny Glover, Tim Daly, Martin Sheen and Jasmine Guy. "Alex Haley's Queen," the last chapter in the "Roots" saga, serves as a perfect complement to WHV’s "Roots" catalog titles, including "Roots: 30th Anniversary Edition," "Roots: The Next Generations" and "Roots: The Complete Collection."
"We are proud to release 'Alex Haley's Queen' for the first time on DVD," said Rosemary Markson, WHV Vice President, TV and Special Interest Marketing. "This miniseries was an important and historic television event based on the last work of legendary American author Alex Haley and we are sure it will be a great addition to the DVD libraries of families looking for a multi-cultural experience."
