“August Rush,” Starring Freddie Highmore, Keri Russell, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Terrence Howard And Robin Williams, Commences Production For Warner Bros. Pictures
(February 28, 2006 - Burbank, CA) – The music-driven drama "August Rush," starring Freddie Highmore ("Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"), Keri Russell ("The Upside of Anger," Golden Globe winner for "Felicity"), Jonathan Rhys-Meyers ("Match Point," Golden Globe winner for "Elvis"), with Terrence Howard ("Crash," Oscar nominee for "Hustle & Flow") and Academy Award winner Robin Williams ("Good Will Hunting"), has commenced production in New York for Warner Bros. Pictures. The announcement was made today by Jeff Robinov, President of Production, Warner Bros. Pictures.
"August Rush" tells the story of a charismatic young Irish guitarist (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) and a sheltered young cellist (Keri Russell) who have a chance encounter one magical night above New York’s Washington Square, but are soon torn apart, leaving in their wake an infant, August Rush, orphaned by circumstance. Now performing on the streets of New York and cared for by a mysterious stranger (Robin Williams), August (Freddie Highmore) uses his remarkable musical talent to seek the parents from whom he was separated at birth.
"August Rush" is produced by Richard Barton Lewis ("Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves," "Backdraft") and directed by Kirsten Sheridan ("Disco Pigs") from a screenplay by Sheridan (Oscar nominee for "In America") and Lewis, Nick Castle ("The Boy Who Could Fly," "Hook") and Jim Hart ("Contact," "Hook"), story by Lewis and Paul Castro. The executive producers are Robert Greenhut ("Everyone Says I Love You," "The Preacher’s Wife"), Miky Lee ("Invisible Waves"), Ralph Kamp ("The Phantom of the Opera," "The Libertine") and Louise Goodsill ("The Phantom of the Opera," "The Libertine"). The director of photography is John Mathieson ("Gladiator," "The Phantom of the Opera"); the production designer is Michael Shaw ("You Can Count on Me," "Boys Don’t Cry"); and the costume designer is Frank Fleming ("Monster’s Ball," "The Woodsman").
The film’s main theme will be created by award-winning composers Hans Zimmer (Oscar winner for "The Lion King") and Mark Mancina ("The Lion King," "Brother Bear"), and the score will be composed by Mancina. Legendary music producer Phil Ramone will produce three of the nearly three dozen music tracks in the film.
Warner Bros. Pictures presents "August Rush," a Southpaw Entertainment production in association with CJ Entertainment.
"August Rush" will be released domestically by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and internationally by Odyssey Entertainment.
