“Eight Legged Freaks” To Swarm Into Theaters Nationwide On July 17th
(July 8, 2002 – Burbank, CA) – “Eight Legged Freaks,” the new comedy thriller about giant spiders run amok, will open nationwide on Wednesday, July 17, 2002 – two days ahead of its originally scheduled release date. The announcement was made today by Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.
“Judging by the enthusiastic response to our advertising campaign and the increasing number of fans the website attracts every day, audiences are eager to see ‘Eight Legged Freaks.’ We’re glad to give them an early start on their summer thrills,” said Fellman, “and look forward to lots of screams and laughter in theaters starting on July 17th.”
In “Eight Legged Freaks,” starring David Arquette, the residents of a rural mining town are terrorized by chemically altered spiders that grow overnight to the size of SUVs and come looking for food. With state-of-the-art visual effects, the comic thriller updates such inspired genre classics as “Them” and “The Black Scorpion.”
Warner Bros. Pictures presents, in association with Village Roadshow Pictures and NPV Entertainment, An Electric Entertainment Production, starring David Arquette: “Eight Legged Freaks,” also starring Kari Wuhrer, Scott Terra, Doug E. Doug and Scarlett Johansson. The film is directed by Ellory Elkayem and produced by Dean Devlin and Bruce Berman, co-produced by Kelly Van Horn. Roland Emmerich, Peter Winther and William Fay are the executive producers. The screenplay is by Jesse Alexander & Ellory Elkayem, story by Ellory Elkayem & Randy Kornfield. John Bartley, ASC, CSC, is the director of photography; Charles Breen, the production designer; and David J. Siegel, ACE, the editor. Music is by John Ottman. “Eight Legged Freaks” will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, an AOL Time Warner Company, and by Village Roadshow Pictures in select territories.
