The “Gilmore Girls” Spin-Off A New Series Created By Executive Producer Amy Sherman-Palladino
(January 11, 2003 – Hollywood, CA) – “GILMORE GIRLS’” creator and executive producer Amy Sherman-Palladino will be the guiding force behind a new one-hour series focusing on Stars Hollow’s resident bad boy Jess Mariano, the character originated by Milo Ventimiglia, it was announced today by Jordan Levin, President, Entertainment, The WB.
“The ‘Gilmore Girls’ characters are so richly drawn, they can easily venture out on their own,” said Levin. “Amy is a gifted storyteller and every character she creates has a life worth examining.”
The new series, which does not yet have a title, will be similar in style to “GILMORE GIRLS,” but instead of an extremely close mother/daughter duo, the focus will be on a father and son who barely know each other. Lorelai and Rory Gilmore know each other’s every quick and finish each other sentences, but Jess and his father are virtual strangers.
“This new series is the story of Jess’s reconnection with the father he barely knows and how his life will change after high school,” said Sherman-Palladino. “The fast pace and the comedy/drama mix of the series will be similar to ‘Gilmore Girls,’ but there will be a lot less skirts.”
“GILMORE GIRLS” was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino (“Roseanne”) who serves as executive producer with Daniel Palladino (“Roseanne“) for Dorothy Parker Drank Here Productions and Hofflund/Polone in association with Warner Bros. Television. # # #
