(March 16, 2000 – Burbank, CA) - NBC Studios’ hit comedy “Will & Grace” has been bought by the entire Tribune Station Group, representing more than 38% of the country, for a fall 2002 off-network launch. The announcement was made today by Dan Greenblatt, Executive Vice President, Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution and Marc Schacher, Vice President, Programming & Development, Tribune Broadcasting Company. The series is being distributed in off-net syndication by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution (WBDTD) through a deal which was announced in December 1999 between NBC Enterprises, the distributor for NBC Studios, and WBDTD. The Tribune stations clearing “Will & Grace” are WPIX-TV (New York), KTLA-TV (Los Angeles), WGN-TV (Chicago), WPHL-TV (Philadelphia), WLVI-TV (Boston), KDAF-TV (Dallas), WBDC-TV (Washington, DC), KHWB-TV (Houston), KCPQ-TV/KTWB-TV (Seattle), WBZL-TV (Miami), KWGN-TV (Denver), KTXL-TV (Sacramento), KSWB-TV (San Diego), WXIN-TV (Indianapolis), WTIC-TV/WTXX-TV (Hartford), WXMI-TV (Grand Rapids), WGNO-TV (New Orleans), WPMT-TV (Harrisburg) and WEWB-TV (Albany). In addition, the series may also run on the former Qwest stations in Atlanta (WATL-TV) and New Orleans (WNOL-TV), which Tribune is currently in the process of acquiring, pending FCC approval. “From the day we announced that ‘Will & Grace’ would be available in off-net syndication, the response from stations has been strong,” said Greenblatt. “Tribune’s expertise in analyzing the potential of future off-network programming has brought their stations incredible success. We are thrilled that ‘Will & Grace’ will have a home on the Tribune stations, where it should thrive for years to come.” “We consider ‘Will & Grace’ at the top of the syndication class of 2002,” said Schacher. “Warner Bros.’ ‘Friends’ has been, and continues to be, a phenomenon for us and we can’t help but to draw comparisons to the similar audience appeal and demos of ‘Will & Grace.’” Created by David Kohan and Max Mutchnick, who serve as executive producers with James Burrows, “Will & Grace” is a production of KoMut Entertainment in association with NBC Studios/Three Sisters Entertainment and is distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution.
