Andrew Rona Named President Of Silver Pictures
(December 9, 2008 – Burbank, CA) – Joel Silver announced today that he has named former Rogue Pictures co-president Andrew Rona to be the new president of Silver Pictures, his Warner Bros.-based production company. In addition, Rona will join Steve Richards as co-president of Silver’s genre banner, Dark Castle Entertainment.
In making the announcement, Joel Silver stated, “I could not imagine a more perfect fit for our company than Andrew. He brings a wealth of experience, a well-honed production sense and proven market savvy to both Silver Pictures and Dark Castle, and I look forward to working with him to create a wide range of original and entertaining film projects.”
Rona offered, “I have been an admirer of Joel’s for years and am excited at the prospect of finally working alongside the man behind some of the films that made me want to be in this business. When it comes to moviemaking, we share similar sensibilities—especially a love of making audiences jump—so I’m looking forward to getting started on a new film slate with Joel and his team and everyone at Warner Bros.”
Rona is set to start in his dual post after the first of the year.
Andrew Rona joins Silver Pictures from Universal Pictures’ genre division, Rogue Pictures, where he was co-president. Over the past three years, he has overseen such hits as the Edgar Wright-directed “Hot Fuzz,” and Bryan Bertino’s thriller “The Strangers.”
Rona began his career at Miramax, where he helped form the Dimension Films banner. During his tenure, the company produced a number of hits, including the hugely successful “Scream” and “Spy Kids” franchises, as well as “Sin City.” Rona also served as an executive producer on a number of films, including “The Brothers Grimm,” “Scary Movie 3” and the second and third installments in the “Scream” trilogy.
Silver Pictures is currently in production on “Sherlock Holmes,” directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams and Mark Strong; and “The Book of Eli,” starring Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman under the direction of Albert and Allen Hughes.
Upcoming Dark Castle films include the horror thriller “Orphan,” starring Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard; “Whiteout,” a thriller directed by Dominic Sena and starring Kate Beckinsale; the horror film “The Factory,” starring John Cusack; and James McTeigue’s actioner “Ninja Assassin,” which Silver is producing with Andy and Larry Wachowski. # # #
