Carlo Verdone’s Latest Film, “Ma Che Colpa Abbiamo Noi” (“It Can’t Be All Our Fault”), In Production
(March 25, 2002 – Burbank, CA) - Warner Bros. Pictures is serving as a production partner with Virginia Films on “Ma Che Colpa Abbiamo Noi” (“It Can’t Be All Our Fault”), marking the Warner Bros. Pictures’ first foray into Italian-language film production. Virginia Films is run by partners Carlo Verdone and Marco Scaffardi.
Production began March 15 on “Ma Che Colpa Abbiamo Noi,” which takes a comically touching look at a group of therapy patients who are left to their own devices after their therapist dies in the middle of one of their sessions. After a disastrous encounter with a new therapist, the group decides to go it alone, applying the late doctor’s methods, and in the process gains a better understanding of life.
One of Italy’s most beloved comedians, Verdone co-wrote the film (with Piero De Bernardi, Pasquale Plastino and Fiamma Satta) and is directing and starring in it as well. Also starring in the film are Margherita Buy, Anita Caprioli, Raquel Suerio and Massimo Bellinzoni.
“Carlo is a great talent and we’re thrilled to be working with him,” said Simona Benzakein, Vice President, European Productions, Warner Bros. Pictures. “He is much loved by the Italian people and his films are known for their sharp observation of everyday life. We’re confident that this film will connect with audiences and enjoy the success of his previous projects.”
“Carlo’s films hold a special place in the heart of the Italian people,” said Paolo Ferrari, Managing Director, Warner Bros. Pictures Italy. “It is a pleasure and an honor for Warner Bros. Pictures to be a part of the team working on his next film.”
Warner Bros. Pictures’ involvement as a production partner on this film continues the Company’s directive to increase its production, acquisition and distribution of local-language films outside of the U.S. Other recent projects undertaken as part of this venture include the acquisition of Italian distribution rights to “Hable con Ella” (the latest film from Pedro Almodovar); a long-term, multifaceted production and distribution deal with X-Filme in Germany; a long-term, multi-film pact with Target Media in Germany; “Le Boulet,” a French-language co-production between Warner Bros. Pictures and La Petite Reine, which opens in France April 10, 2002; and the acquisition of rights to the 2001 Cannes Palm d’Or-winning Italian film “La Stanza del Figlio” (“The Son’s Room”) for Spain, Latin America, and Japan.
Verdone has directed some 18 films in the last 21 years, including “C’era un Cinese in Coma,” for which he received a David Donatello Award for Best Director. He’s also received three Donatellos as Best Actor, one for Best Screenplay and a Special Donatello for his 1979 film “Un Sacco Bello.” # # #
