Hollywood Icon Joins BigPond Movie Downloads
(October 13, 2006) - Hollywood’s famous movie studio, Warner Bros. Studios, will provide some of the greatest movies ever made for download from BigPond Movies.
The deal between Australia’s largest ISP and the Hollywood studio will make available classics including "Casablanca," "The Wizard of Oz" and "2001: A Space Odyssey," through to modern hits such as "Batman Begins" and the "Superman" movies.
This is the first time that movies from Warner Bros. Studios have been available for download in Australia. It will give BigPond Movies members access to a wide selection from the Warner Bros. catalogue of more than 8,000 titles, including recent feature films, famous classics and made-for-TV movies.
BigPond Group Managing Director, Mr Justin Milne said the deal demonstrates BigPond’s ongoing drive to bring digital entertainment into the mainstream by increasing customer choice.
“Our customers already have front row seats when it comes to online entertainment and now, thanks to this deal with Warner Bros., we’ve significantly increased the range and depth of the BigPond Movie Downloads catalogue,” Mr Milne said.
“Our members can find, download and view on demand, some of the best movies ever made anywhere they have a broadband connection. This provides the flexibility and choice that make online viewing so compelling.”
The deal was negotiated by Greg Robertson, Vice President, Asia Pacific, Warner Bros. International Television Distribution.
“We are pleased to be offering our titles online through this deal with BigPond which will enable us to bring our films and television series to Australian consumers on a whole new platform,” said Jeffrey R. Schlesinger, President, Warner Bros. International Television. “This deal recognises the increasing importance of digital media technology and how it can be used to enhance the consumer’s entertainment experience.”
The launch of Telstra’s Next G™ network also means BigPond Movie downloads will be accessible to around 98 per cent of the Australian population because selections can also be made using Next G mobile handsets.
Warner Bros. titles will be priced from $3.95.
