Inspired By “The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants” Female Celebrities To Decorate, Sign And Donate Pants For eBAY Benefit Auction
(May 17, 2005 - Burbank, CA) – Celebrating the powerful and enduring friendships that women of all ages share is the cornerstone of the upcoming film "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants." Warner Bros. Pictures, in partnership with the Levi’s® brand and eBay, have invited female celebrities to “Join the Sisterhood” by participating in a unique nationwide project to raise awareness and funds for Girls Inc., a national nonprofit youth organization dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and bold.
Inspired by the jeans featured in the film, each pair of Levi’s® jeans will be personally decorated by prominent female celebrities as an expression of individuality as well as allegiance to one another as women – in friendship and philanthropy. They will be individually created with distinctive items, colors and themes symbolizing the events, interests and accomplishments that have helped make these special women what they are today.
Participating in this unique creative project are the film’s stars, Amber Tamblyn, America Ferrera, Blake Lively and Alexis Bledel, plus Ann Brashares, author of the novel on which it is based. They will be joined by successful and well known women representing all facets of the entertainment community including Courteney Cox-Arquette, Selma Blair, Brandy, Katie Couric, Vivica Fox, Jennie Garth, Mary Hart, Jill Hennessy, Lauryn Hill, Angelina Jolie, Ashley Judd, Queen Latifah, Virginia Madsen, Nancy O’Dell, Leah Remini, Annasophia Robb, Raven Symone, Jessica Simpson, Amy Smart, Brittany Snow, Jamie Lynn Spears, Lara Spencer, Kirsten Storms, Charlize Theron, Amber Valletta, Estella Warren and Emma Watson.
Each pair of pants will be auctioned on eBay, with proceeds benefiting Girls Inc. Beginning Monday, May 23rd and running through Thursday, June 2nd, online bidders can access eBay’s Sisterhood Pants auction page directly via www.ebay.com/sisterhood.
With roots dating to 1864, Girls Inc. has provided vital educational programs to millions of American girls, particularly those in high-risk, underserved areas. Based on Ann Brashares’ best-selling novel, "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" is about a special summer in the lives of four lifelong friends who are separated for the first time. On a shopping trip, they find a pair of thrift-shop jeans that fits each of them perfectly and decide to use these pants as a way of keeping in touch over the months ahead, each one wearing the jeans for a week to see what luck they bring her before sending them on to the next. Though miles apart, the four friends still experience life, love and loss together in a summer they’ll never forget.
