(April 3, 2006 - Cannes) - Channel 6 arrives in Cannes for Mip TV fresh off its launch in Ireland last week and closing its latest acquisition deal for a slate of first-run and hit drama and comedy series from Warner Bros. International Television Distribution, it was announced today by Michael Murphy, Founder and Director of Programmes, Channel 6, and Jeffrey R. Schlesinger, President, Warner Bros. International Television. Among the first-run series set to premiere on Channel 6 are “The Closer,” the crime drama starring Kyra Sedgwick; “Related,” a comedy/drama with Jennifer Esposito and Kiele Sanchez; “Four Kings,” a comedy with Seth Green, Josh Cook, Todd Grinnell and Shane McRae; and “The New Adventures of Old Christine,” a new comedy starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The deal was negotiated by Mr. Murphy and Chris Law, Managing Director, UK & Ireland, Warner Bros. International Television Distribution. “After all the excitement around our launch last week, we are more dedicated than ever to make Channel 6 Ireland’s number one choice for entertainment,” said Murphy. “We are very pleased to announce this agreement with Warner Bros. here at Mip TV and we will continue to seek out high-quality programming like this for the channel moving forward.” In addition, Channel 6 has acquired the free TV rights to the hugely popular series “The Sopranos,” the multi-Emmy and Golden Globe winner starring James Gandolfini and Edie Falco; the Emmy-nominated series “The Wire” starring Dominic West; “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” created by and starring Golden Globe winner Larry David; and “Without a Trace,” starring Golden Globe winner Anthony LaPaglia. “We’re very excited that Channel 6 has had such a successful launch and are thrilled that their presence in the Irish television marketplace will benefit viewers as well as Warner Bros. as programme distributors,” said Law. “We wish them great success and look forward to a long-term, mutually-beneficial relationship.” Channel 6 launched in Ireland on March 31 and features a broad entertainment schedule, including movies, music, drama and comedy aimed primarily at the 15-35 age group. The service also includes local programming with fresh, new home-grown talent. The Channel will be based in and run from Dublin.
