James Cardwell Named President, Warner Home Video
(January 8, 2003 – Burbank, CA) - Widely respected Warner Home Video veteran James Cardwell has been named President, Warner Home Video, it was announced today by Barry Meyer, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, Warner Bros.
Meyer also announced that Warner Home Video will now report to Alan Horn, President & Chief Operating Officer, Warner Bros.
In his new position, Cardwell will assume overall responsibility for the industry’s number-one home video division, which includes worldwide sales, marketing, pay-per-view, video-on-demand, finance, general operations, administration and supply chain management.
“Jim has long been an integral part of the extraordinary growth and success of Warner Home Video, helping build the division to what it is today—the overall industry leader with 21% of the U.S. home video market and an unmatched presence in some 80 territories throughout the world,” said Meyer.
“As Warner Home Video begins a new era, having Jim at the helm ensures the division will continue its place as the global leader in home entertainment,” said Horn. “I look forward to working with Jim and his very talented team.”
Cardwell will announce some additional personnel changes in the division shortly.
A 20-year Warner Home Video veteran, Cardwell most recently served as Executive Vice President, North America/Australia, with responsibility for the division’s operations in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Mexico. He joined the division in 1983 as Director, Planning & Administration and was subsequently promoted to Vice President, Worldwide Operations and then Executive Vice President, North America. Cardwell came to the company in 1977 working in the audit department at Warner Communications in London. He relocated to the U.S. in 1979 as Warner Communications’ Corporate Audit Manager. Prior to that, he worked at the accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand in the U.K. and East Africa. Cardwell holds a master’s degree in economics from the University of Manchester and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
