Joshua A. Berger Named To Head Warner Bros. U.K.
(February 12, 2002 - Burbank, CA & London) - Warner Bros. has created Warner Bros. UK and named Joshua A. Berger Executive Vice President & Managing Director to head the operation, it was announced today by Barry M. Meyer, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, Warner Bros.
In his newly created post, Berger will be responsible for all of Warner Bros.’ business activities in the United Kingdom and Ireland, including oversight of the UK and Ireland divisions of Warner Bros. Pictures, Warner Home Video, Warner Bros. International Television Distribution, Warner Bros. Consumer Products, Warner Bros. Online and Warner Bros. International Theatres.
Berger will be responsible to the management of each of the respective business units.
“The UK, as one of the most important markets in the world, is vital to our global growth initiative,” said Meyer. “I can think of no one more uniquely qualified to oversee our businesses and our growth initiative in this key territory. In order for our strategy to succeed in the UK, we need to adjust our traditional business perspectives, and take a more overarching approach to even the most basic day-to-day business decisions. Josh’s mandate is to do just that by better leveraging our assets, maximizing business opportunities, increasing efficiency, and optimizing cross-divisional and cross-company cooperation in the UK and Ireland.”
Berger moves up to his new position from Senior Vice President, International Sales and Business Development & Managing Director, Europe, Warner Bros. International Television Distribution (WBITD), a position to which he was promoted in 1999, having served the two years prior as Vice President, Licensing & Business Development, WBITD.
Immediately upon his graduation from Harvard University in 1989, Berger joined Warner Bros. as a sales executive in WBITD’s office in France. From 1991-1995, he ran the WBITD’s Madrid office as Managing Director, Spain and Portugal (adding the responsibilities for Business Development, Europe and being named Vice President in 1994). In 1997, Berger was named Vice President, Licensing & Business Development, Europe and moved to WBITD’s office in London (where he currently resides).
Berger, who is fluent in five languages (French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and English), is a member of the Young Presidents Organization, serves on the Council on Foreign Relations and is on the Board of CanalSatellite Digital in Spain. # # #
