(June 18, 2002 – Burbank, CA) — Kids’ WB! has ordered 13 original episodes for a third season of the returning hit “Static Shock” from Warner Bros. Animation to air on Saturday mornings during the 2002-2003 season. This announcement was made today by Donna Friedman, Executive Vice President, Kids’ WB! “'Static Shock’ has delivered strong ratings this spring and is a wonderful example of Kids’ WB!’s unique brand of ‘character adventures,’” said Ms. Friedman. “As we strengthen our creative partnership with Warner Bros. Animation, we are proud to continue tackling highly relevant issues for kids today in the third season of this electrifying series.” Kids’ WB! continues to dominate as a market leader in kids’ television and has maintained its top-rated position. Season-to-date, Kids’ WB! is the #1 Saturday morning network among all competition, including cable, in the key demographic of Boys 6-11 (5.3/22), taking seven of the top 10 program spots – and leading with the top five programs. The network also is #1 among the broadcast competitors in Kids 2-11 (3.1/13), Kids 6-11 (3.8/17) and Boys 2-11 (4.3/18). Kids’ WB! leads the broadcast competition with the top eight programs among Kids 2-11, Kids 6-11, Boys 2-11 and Boys 6-11. Since its second season debut on January 26, 2002, “Static Shock,” at 8:30 a.m. ET, has jolted all time period competition, including cable, in Boys 6-11 (5.5/22) and is the #1 broadcast program in its time period among Kids 2-11 (3.0/13), Boys 2-11 (4.2/17), Kids 6-11 (3.8/17) and Tweens 9-14 (2.8/18). “Static Shock” has delivered double-digit year-to-year ratings growth in the 8:30 a.m. ET time period in Kids 2-11 (+15%), Boys 2-11 (+14%), Kids 6-11 (+15%) and Boys 6-11 (+15%). While keeping his superhero identity a secret from his family, Static protects Dakota with the aid of his best friend, Richie – who will develop superpowers of his own – and some infamous surprise guest heroes. Based on the Milestone/DC Comics property, “Static Shock” follows the adventures of quick-witted Virgil Hawkins, who is imbued with electromagnetic superpowers…and becomes "Static," an urban hero of his own creation. The high-adventure series introduces the first African-American teen animated superhero and will continue to confront real problems and issues faced by today's kids, including racism, gun violence, gangs and growing up in an ethnically diverse urban neighborhood. “Static Shock” is produced and animated by Warner Bros. Animation, under the creative supervision of supervising producer Alan Burnett and producers Swinton Scott and Denys Cowan. Kids’ WB! is the children’s programming service of The WB Network. The network has maintained its position as the #1 broadcast network since Spring of 1999 and continues to set precedent with its powerhouse 2001-2002 programming schedule.
