Legendary Casting Executive Barbara Miller Dies
(August 25, 2003 – Burbank, CA) - Veteran Warner Bros. Television Casting Executive Barbara Miller – who launched the careers of many stars – died in Los Angeles Sunday, August 24 of cancer.
Miller, who joined Warner Bros. Television in 1976 (when it was Lorimar), was responsible for casting some of the most successful shows on television, including “ER,” “Friends,” “The West Wing,” “Gilmore Girls,” “The Drew Carey Show,” “Dallas,” “Knots Landing,” “Family Matters,” “Sisters,” “I’ll Fly Away,” and numerous made-for-television movies.
Throughout her career, she received 10 Emmy Award nominations, including two nominations this year for her work on “Friends” and “The West Wing,” and won four Emmys for Outstanding Achievement in Casting. She also won numerous Artios Awards from the Casting Society of America, as well as CSA’s prestigious Hoyt Bowers Lifetime Achievement Award.
Miller is survived by brothers Arthur and Sy Miller. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, August 27, 10:30 a.m. at Rose Hills Mortuary in Costa Mesa. For additional information please call Rose Hills (714) 540-5554.
