Pokémania Still Going Strong: Opening Weekend Box Office For "Pokémon The Movie 2000" Hits $19 Million
(July 24, 2000 – Burbank, CA) – Children and their parents filled theatres across North America this weekend in great numbers to catch the second big-screen adventure of their favorite animated characters in "Pokémon The Movie 2000," from Warner Bros. Family Entertainment. Box office receipts for the highly anticipated sequel to last year's mega-hit totaled $19,575,608.
Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures, was pleased but not surprised by the response. "We are delighted with the strong opening numbers for this latest installment in the Pokémon series of films," he said. "Kids have embraced these characters like no others in recent memory and, in the busy summer marketplace, this is the only movie just for them. It's fun, it introduces new characters and some that are being seen on screen for the very first time, and it has a great message, which parents can appreciate."
Warner Bros. Pictures once again collaborates with Nintendo of America, which manages the Pokémon franchise that it acquired from the original creators in Japan, in all territories outside of Asia, and 4Kids Entertainment, whose production company handles the adaptation of the original Japanese release.
Kids’ WB! Presents a 4Kids Entertainment Production, “Pokémon The Movie 2000,” produced by Norman J. Grossfeld, President of 4Kids Productions. Grossfeld and Michael Haigney adapted the script from the original screenplay written by Takeshi Shudo. The director of the Japanese production is Kunihiko Yuyama, and the American director is Michael Haigney. Voice talents are Veronica Taylor, Rachael Lillis, Eric Stuart, Addie Blaustein and Ed Paul, and featuring Ikue Otani as Pikachu. Music is by Ralph Schuckett and John Loeffler. “Pokémon The Movie 2000” is distributed by Warner Bros. Family Entertainment, a Time Warner Entertainment Company. www.p2kthemovie.com# # #
