(July 10, 2000 – Burbank, CA) – Pokémon fans can catch a glimpse of their favorite characters' newest big screen adventure and hear some of the songs created especially for the movie's soundtrack by tuning in to The WB for "The Power of One: The Pokémon 2000 Movie Special" -- a jam-packed half-hour special about the highly anticipated new movie from Warner Bros. Family Entertainment. The special will air nationally on The WB on Sunday, July 16, at 8:00 PM Eastern and Pacific time; airtimes may vary locally.
Viewers will be treated to highlights of the live stage show performed at the movie's July 15th U.S. premiere in Westwood and hosted by comedian Kel Mitchell ("All That"), plus clips from the movie and a first look at new Pokémon characters making their screen debut in Kids’ WB! Presents "Pokémon the Movie 2000," which opens nationwide on July 21.
The special will also feature behind-the-scenes recording sessions and interviews with some of the music industry's stars who have contributed to the movie's soundtrack, including Donna Summer, who sings the inspiring theme "The Power of One"; the incomparable Weird Al Yankovic; new teen band Dream Street, with their "They Don't Understand"; and 12-year-old sensation Alysha, who will perform her song, "Dreams." Pop bands Youngstown and Nobody's Angel will join forces in a live rendition of "Pokémon World."
Among the show's highlights will be a special segment introduced by David Gallagher ("7th Heaven") and spotlighting messages from LA Lakers star Kobe Bryant, Christina Aguilera, and the boys from 'N Sync, profiling stories of real-life hero kids from across the country. These are kids who truly demonstrate the movie's message, "the power of one," by making a difference in their own communities on a daily basis in youth groups, church and other community organizations.
