Premiere Networks Launches “TMZ Sports” on Radio Stations Nationwide
(October 29, 2013 – Los Angeles, CA) – Premiere Networks, the leading audio network in the U.S., and TMZ, the leading entertainment news brand, announced today the launch of “TMZ Sports” – a new one-hour, weekday radio program available to Sports and News/Talk stations. Launched this week, “TMZ Sports” is an adaptation of the sports entertainment website, www.tmzsports.com - where TMZ is constantly breaking exclusive stories. At “TMZ Sports,” hits, runs and errors are totally out of bounds because it’s all about the personalities and athletes. The show is centered around the ensemble of reporters in the TMZ newsroom who break these exclusive stories that have an impact on the players, their future and the teams. “TMZ Sports” also welcomes guests, athletes and people from all over the world sounding off on Skype, phones and various social media.
Originating from Hollywood, Calif., “TMZ Sports” is available to Sports and News/Talk radio stations Monday through Friday, between 7 p.m. ET and midnight local time. The program, which can also be heard on iHeartRadio.com and the iHeartRadio mobile app, Clear Channel’s all-in-one free digital listening service, has already added the following stations to its growing affiliate roster: KLAC-AM 570 in Los Angeles, CA; WINZ-AM 940 in Miami, FL; KBAD-AM 920 in Las Vegas, NV; WHOO-AM 1060 in Orlando, FL; and KXIC-AM 800 in Iowa City/Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
TMZ Executive Producer Harvey Levin stated, “The show is going to attract people who love sports so they can learn more about the athletes they follow. It will also attract lots of people who don’t follow sports but like watching the drama and the fun.”
“The launch of ‘TMZ Sports’ on radio and iHeartRadio is a natural extension of the powerful and relevant TMZ brand,” stated Bruce Gilbert, Senior Vice President of Sports Operations for Clear Channel Media and Entertainment. “TMZ’s unmatched ability to break stories and present in-depth, unfiltered, entertaining information on all things sports will provide fans with great insight into the stories they are talking about with their friends.”
Premiere and TMZ, in association with Agile Media Partners, joined efforts in June 2011 to launch “TMZ Radio.” Hosted by Harvey Levin, the weekday vignette highlighting the world of celebrities airs on approximately 70 entertainment radio stations worldwide and reaches 2.4 million weekly listeners (Source: Arbitron, SP’13, Exact Times, Weekly Reach, Persons 12+). In October 2012, Premiere and TMZ launched “TMZ Live” – a one-hour weekday radio program available to Talk radio stations. “TMZ Live” is an adaptation of the hour-long webcast and TV program of the same name, which gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the TMZ newsroom as executive producers Harvey Levin, Charles Latibeaudiere and the rest of the TMZ staff discuss hot topics and breaking news. They also chat with celebrities involved in the stories by phone, Skype or in person, and take calls, Tweets and Facebook questions from viewers.
