Shed Media Acquires Majority Stake in Renegade Pictures
(April 2, 2012 – London, United Kingdom) – Shed Media Group (majority owned by Warner Bros. International Television Production) has acquired a majority stake in Renegade Pictures, a UK-based television production company. The deal sees Renegade join Shed Media’s existing flagship brands which include Shed Productions, Wall to Wall, Twenty Twenty and Ricochet, further diversifying the Group’s global production offering.
Founded in June 2006 by Alan Hayling, Alex Cooke and Jon Rowlands, Renegade Pictures specializes in producing factual entertainment formats and high quality documentaries for an international audience. Supplying the leading British broadcasters with popular television content, the company has been responsible for a varied slate which includes BBC Three reality hit “Don’t Tell The Bride” (now produced in multiple territories), “World’s Most Dangerous Roads” for BBC Two, “Death Unexplained” for BBC One, ITV’s primetime entertainment show “Popstar to Operastar,” Channel 5’s “Celebrity Wedding Planner” and the “Bigger Than...” series for Sky Living.
Renegade Pictures’ entire team, including new Editorial Director and former BBC commissioner Harry Lansdown, will continue to operate from its current London base in an independent manner as the other Shed brands do, but it now has the benefit of joining a well-respected production group, which boasts some of the UK’s most creative talent. The acquisition also means the company‘s intellectual property will now be distributed by Warner Bros.
Alan Hayling, Editorial Director at Renegade Pictures: “What attracted us to Shed Media is its integrity – the sense that the quality of the programs they make really matters. That’s vital to us at Renegade and its why there’s a natural synergy between Shed and Renegade. And with the strength of Warner Bros behind the Group, joining Shed is a great basis for a new phase of expansion for Renegade.”
Nick Southgate, CEO of Shed Media Group: “I’m delighted that Renegade will be joining our Group - I’ve long been an admirer of their output. Alex, Alan, Jon and the team have the wonderful ability of mixing high quality television with commercial success and I think they will fit in brilliantly at Shed.”
