Superstar Hilary Duff To Star In Two Music-Driven Specials For The WB
(July 13, 2003 – Hollywood, CA) – Superstar Hilary Duff will star in two music-driven specials for The WB Network. The young actress and recording artist, who recently graced the cover of Vanity Fair on the heels of her smash motion picture debut in “The Lizzie McGuire Movie,” will star in two hour-long specials on The WB during the 2003-2004 broadcast season. The deal was announced today by Jordan Levin, President, Entertainment of The WB.
Duff will star in the two specials for the network, including a “Hilary Duff Birthday Celebration” (working title), concurrent with her 16th birthday, and the release of her debut CD this fall. The show will feature musical performances by Hilary and her special guest stars. The guest-star lineup will be announced at a later date.
The second Hilary Duff special will be a Christmas event featuring holiday musical performances with additional details to be announced at a later date. Airdates for both specials will also be announced at a later date. Bob Bain (“The Billboard Music Awards”) will be the executive producer of both specials.
“We’re thrilled to be starting a relationship with the Duff family and hope this is the beginning of a long alliance,” said Levin. “Hilary is at the forefront of the next generation of Hollywood talent and The WB is the perfect place for her and her fans, given our continued push into expanding our network brand with music-driven programming.”
“I’m really excited to be working with The WB on these two music specials, which will hopefully give my fans a more personal look into my musical side,” said Ms. Duff.
A dynamic young star, Duff has the title role in Disney Channel’s international hit series “Lizzie McGuire” and the lead role in last year’s blockbuster “Cadet Kelly,” which ranks as Disney Channel’s highest-rated original movie ever, the top-rated movie on both broadcast and cable television for its premiere week and cable television’s highest-rated movie to date in 2002.
In August 2002, the talented Duff crossed over to other platforms, making her singing debut with the single “I Can’t Wait” on the “Lizzie McGuire” soundtrack from Walt Disney Records. The song quickly catapulted up the charts on Radio Disney. Her successful debut will be followed up with her own Christmas-themed album, scheduled for release this year by Walt Disney Records. On that album, Duff duets with R&B/pop recording artist Christina Milian and with hip-hop artist Lil’ Romeo. In addition, she was chosen to perform “The Tiki Tiki Room” on the upcoming Disneymania album. # # #
