TNN Acquires 66 Pop Culture Movie Titles From Warner Bros. Domestic Cable Distribution
(May 1, 2001 – New York, NY) - TNN has acquired 66 theatrical movies and movies-of-the-week from Warner Bros. Domestic Cable Distribution, it was announced today by Diane Robina, General Manager of TNN and Eric Frankel, President, Warner Bros. Domestic Cable Distribution.
The package of popular films of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s includes “THE BIG RED ONE” starring Lee Marvin, Mark Hamill and Robert Carradine in a vivid account of a World War II special infantry; “BODY HEAT,” featuring William Hurt and Kathleen Turner in a murder story of a lawyer who falls in love with a femme fatale; “MEAN STREETS,” starring Robert DeNiro, Harvey Keitel, and David Carradine; The Coen Brother’s “THE HUDSUCKER PROXY,” the story of big business and the American dream starring Tim Robbins, Paul Newman, Jennifer Jason Leigh; “OH GOD!” with George Burns as God and John Denver as his messenger; “ONCE UPON A TIME IN AMERICA,” with Robert DeNiro, Joe Pesci and James Woods in a struggle to achieve power in gangland; “THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE” with Jessica Lange, Jack Nicholson, Anjelica Houston; Rob Reiner’s “SURE THING” a love story with John Cusack, Daphne Zuniga; “TOWERING INFERNO” with Steve McQueen, Paul Newman and William Holden in the rescue story of those trapped in a burning skyscraper as well as “YOUNG GUNS” with Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen.
“This acquisition allows TNN to add to its library of popular films, featuring popular stars and mirroring pop culture,” said Diane Robina, General Manager, TNN. “TNN viewers love movies. From the calls we get from our viewers on our 24-hour POP line, we know this package includes our viewers’ favorite stars in some of their favorite films.” TNN currently offers primetime movies (9:00 PM, ET/PT) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and daytime movies (4:00 PM, ET/PT) on Mondays-thru-Fridays.
"This is an outstanding collection that includes three decades worth of feature hits from all genres," said Frankel. "It will help support TNN's effort to brand itself as the number one source for POP culture programming and attract viewers from all demographics."
Coast to coast, TNN is connecting Adults 18-49 to the tops in pop culture such as the World Wrestling Federation’s “RAW IS WAR,” cable's top-rated series. And it's connecting viewers to network decision-makers 24 hours a day through its toll-free number, 1-888-POP-1090.
Under the banner of "We've Got Pop," TNN invites its viewers to call and talk about what's pop on television, on movie screens and in their hometowns. Viewers’ voices and faces show up on the network, talking about whatever's on their minds. Since TNN started 1-888-POP-1090, more than 12,000 calls weekly have come in from all over the country. TNN's program schedule will include 50% original programming by the year 2005.
