Twelve New-to-DVD Classic Westerns Lead Stellar Group of Contemporary Hits and Family Favorites
(November 1, 2006 - Burbank, CA) – In what is believed to be an industry first, Warner Home Video will introduce a full line of innovative new DVDs called the "Triple Features Collection."
Each affordably priced ($14.98 SRP) amaray packaged disc will contain three features, culled from Warner’s massive library, the largest of any studio, and selected from a wide range of titles, including family, evergreen, action, contemporary drama and many other categories.
Leading the way in the first wave will be a delight for Western fans with the release of 12 classic westerns, all new to DVD, and all newly transferred. Six star the legendary John Wayne and six star Randolph Scott, whose remarkable screen career lasted more than four decades. The John Wayne films are "The Telegraph Trail"/"Somewhere in Sonora"/"The Man from Monterey" and "The Big Stampede"/"Ride Him Cowboy"/"Haunted Gold"; the Randolph Scott features are "Colt 45"/"Fort Worth"/"Tall Man Riding" and "The Man Behind the Gun"/"Thunder Over the Plains"/"Riding Shotgun."
The John Wayne films -- six of the total 142 movies the Academy Award®-winning actor made in a 50-year career -- were all made at Warner Bros. during the period before Wayne achieved super-star status. Randolph Scott’s movies were all made at Warner Bros. during the 1950s, when Scott was still one of the screen’s biggest Western heroes, appearing with co-stars such as Lloyd Bridges, Charles Bronson, Dorothy Malone and Ruth Roman.
Action and drama in other "Triple Features" include films from Clint Eastwood, Mel Gibson, Michael Douglas and Steven Seagal. For families looking for quality and wholesome entertainment, the "Lassie" and "Free Willy" trilogy lead the way.
“This new program, historically unprecedented for a major studio, is timed to capture and captivate consumers’ attention during the holiday season with a proposition of extraordinary quality and value,” said Jeff Baker Senior Vice President and General Manager, Theatrical Catalog and Domestic Sales. "The Triple Features" will prove to be a perfect affordable choice for collectors, as well as for gift givers and will be embraced by consumers.
