"Wait Till Your Father Gets Home - The Complete First Season" DVD From Warner Home Video
(March 12, 2007 - Burbank, CA) — Warner Home Video (WHV) will take consumers on a nostalgic trip back with the release of "Wait Till Your Father Gets Home - The Complete First Season" June 5, 2007. Released in time for Father’s Day, the DVD will include 24 episodes from the show’s first season, plus bonus material on four discs. "Wait Till Your Father Gets Home - The Complete First Season" will retail for $44.98. Order due date has been set for May 1, 2007.
WHV has reached into Hanna-Barbera’s classic cartoon vaults to bring consumers this charming animated comedy about the Boyles, a lovable dysfunctional American family living in the suburbs of Los Angeles in the early 70’s. "Wait Till Your Father Gets Home" first aired in primetime on CBS. This show started out as a one-time segment on "Love American Style" and was later spun off into a syndicated series. Today, the show is often compared to such contemporary animated series as "King of the Hill," "Family Guy" and "The Simpsons."
It’s in America and the Age of Aquarius has dawned, hippie culture is still going strong, while the sexual revolution and the feminist movement quickly gain momentum. Times are changing and no one knows it better than Harry Boyle (Tom Bosley, "Happy Days"), a conservative father and suburban everyman trying to come to terms with the changing world around him while learning to deal with his liberal kids. "Wait Till Your Father Gets Home," the animated generation-gap comedy, follows Harry and the rest of the Boyle clan, an average, middle-class American family living as they confront the era’s issues, one laugh at a time.
Harry, a successful business man, owns a restaurant supply company, while his wife Irma (Joan Gerber) portrays the role of a typical housewife who occasionally stirs up the pot by exhibiting her independent side. Harry and Irma have three children: Chet (David Hayward), Alice (Kristina Holland) and the youngest, Jamie, who is voiced by actor Jackie Earle Haley, recently nominated for an Academy Award and a Screen Actor’s Guild award for his role in "Little Children."
Many of the show’s storylines dealt with the generation gap between Harry and his children. Some of the plotlines featured in the show’s first season include Chet being drafted, the Boyles having to deal with nude sunbathers during their beach vacation, Harry being accused of cheating on his wife, the family dealing with Chet’s hippie friend, Alice joining a commune, Irma getting a job, Harry being mugged and many others.
DVD Special Features:
• Retrospective Featurette titled "Animation for the Nation," which highlights the rich and unique history of the series and time period.
• Illustrating the Times: This featurette examines the animation of this series and how it crossed the line of poetic license, and danced around the exaggerated version of an American family.
“'Wait Till Your Father Gets Home' was a television program that was ahead of its time,” commented Dorinda Marticorena, WHV Vice President of Family, Animation & Sports Marketing. She added, “It was a true original and laid a foundation for many of the popular animated primetime shows of today. We think this DVD will find a contemporary audience as many of its themes and plotlines still resonate with today’s viewers.”
