Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution Clears “The Closer” For A Second Cycle In 2012–14
(February 17, 2011 – Burbank, CA and New York, NY) – Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution has cleared the second-cycle broadcast rights to the drama series “The Closer” in over 88% of the country. The Fox Television Stations have renewed the weekend hour in 16 markets, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Dallas.
Ken Werner, President, Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, commented, “It is gratifying to hear from our stations how enthusiastically ‘The Closer’ has been embraced by their broadcast viewers. ‘The Closer’ was a powerhouse on cable and has proven itself a winner in broadcast syndication as well.”
Rick Meril, Executive Vice President and General Sales Manager, Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, added, “Outside of the Fox Television Stations, over 40 additional Station Groups have also stepped up to renew the program, including CBS, Tribune, Belo, Lin, Cox, Fisher, Nexstar, Media General, Meredith, Local TV, Raycom, New Age, New Vision, Newport, Northwest, and Gray, just to name a few — all of whom recognize the strength of this distinctive program.”
“The Closer” is the highest-rated series in the history of advertiser-supported cable television, ranking #1 among Households, Total Viewers and Women 25–54. It debuted as a Top 3 weekend hour in syndication in 2010–11 among the same demos. The show has received critical acclaim and awards recognition, including a recent 2010 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for star Kyra Sedgwick.
Presented on TNT weekly on Mondays at 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT), “The Closer” just finished its sixth season on cable last month, and is set to debut its next season in 2011. The program stars Kyra Sedgwick as CIA-trained Deputy Police Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson, a former Atlanta detective brought to Los Angeles to head a special LAPD unit charged with cracking sensitive, high-profile murder cases. Sedgwick is joined by an acclaimed ensemble cast, including J.K. Simmons, Corey Reynolds, Robert Gossett, G.W. Bailey, Tony Denison, Michael Paul Chan, Raymond Cruz, Phillip P. Keene and Jon Tenney.
From The Shephard/Robin Company in association with Warner Bros. Television, “The Closer” was created by James Duff, who serves as executive producer along with Greer Shephard, Michael M. Robin, Kyra Sedgwick and Rick Wallace.###
