(July 11, 2018 – San Francisco, CA) – Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is sharpening its growing mobile business with strategic investments into the social capabilities of its mobile games. Marking this new phase of growth, the company today announced the acquisition of Plexchat – a communications platform for mobile gamers. The acquisition aims to elevate the social experience within the company’s suite of mobile titles by integrating enhanced community features and chat capabilities to encourage and facilitate increased player engagement.
Plexchat CEO and Co-founder Shawn Foust will join WB Games San Francisco in a newly created role as Vice President, Central Product Management responsible for overseeing the vision of the mobile chat platform, identifying market opportunities and implementing industry-leading practices.
“Shawn and team bring tremendous social expertise in the mobile gaming space, which allows us to grow our chat capabilities for our slate of mobile games,” said Steven Chiang, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Production and Studios, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “Advancing the social aspect of our mobile games in order to deliver the best experience for our players is a top priority for us.”
Founded in 2015, Plexchat’s platform was designed to foster a community for players to connect with the games they love. The company focused on building the premier tool for social coordination in mobile games – innovations that are acutely aligned with Warner Bros.’ own trajectory and product roadmap.
“Nurturing the connective tissue between players and mobile games has always been the prime focus for Plexchat,” said Shawn Foust, Vice President, Central Product Management, WB Games San Francisco. “Being a part of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will allow us to continue to do just that – this time armed with even greater resources and access to the most coveted intellectual property in mobile games.”
