Warner Bros. International Television Production To Offer Hilarious New Format “Impractical Jokers” At MIPCOM 2011
(September 29, 2011 – Burbank, CA) – Warner Bros. International Television Production has acquired the rights to distribute the brand new format and entertainment series from NorthSouth Productions – “Impractical Jokers” and will offer the format to clients at next week’s MIPCOM 2011.
The half-hour series will broadcast on truTV in the U.S. starting in December.
This simple and hilarious format features four friends competing in unbelievably awkward social challenges - all recorded by hidden cameras. But in this show, winning doesn’t matter…it’s the loser who counts, as he or she gets punished in the most mortifying, but excruciatingly funny forfeit.
In the U.S. series our Impractical Jokers are four lifelong friends on a mission to embarrass each other to the max. Since they were kids, Sal, Murr, Q and Joe have dared one another to do the most ridiculous, humiliating public pranks imaginable. Now, to find out who’s best under pressure, they are bringing these pranks to screen.
“We are proud and delighted to bring ‘Impractical Jokers’ to MIPCOM as a format and finished programme. Like all the best concepts, the formula is incredibly simple and strong, and we know it will make audiences laugh across the world,” said Andrew Zein, SVP, Creative, Format Development and Sales WBITVP.
"We could not be more pleased to find ourselves in bed with Warner Brothers... internationally speaking. Oddly, it's been a fantasy of ours since High School. We're very excited about bringing ‘Impractical Jokers’ to the world," said Murr, Joe, Sal & Q, Executive Producers, “Impractical Jokers.”
Warner Bros. International Television Production:
In 2009, Warner Bros. International Television Distribution announced the formation of Warner Bros. International Television Production. During the next 12 months, WBITVP has been steadily increasing the amount of formats it has been licensing, such as “The Bachelor,” and has been aligning with high-profile producers such as John de Mol and his Talpa Media. In 2010, WBITVP acquired a majority stake in Shed Media, one of the UK’s largest and most successful independent production and distribution companies, with operations in both the UK and the US. This marked a significant step in the Company’s goal to establish or acquire operating production companies in major territories around the world with the mandate to create locally produced versions of programs owned by the Studio and to develop original local programming on a market by market basis.
NorthSouth Productions:
NorthSouth Productions is one of the fastest growing independent producers of television in the US with offices in New York, Florida and Tennessee. They supply programming to a variety of networks including TLC, Discovery, Travel Channel, HGTV, TNN, MTV, A&E and The History Channel. Productioncredits include documentaries, reality series, travel series and sports entertainment. NorthSouth Productions was founded by Executive Producers and Charles DeBevoise and Mark Hickman.###
