Warner Bros. Mexico Signs Agreement With Lemon Films
(April 7, 2006 - Mexico City) – Warner Bros. Mexico has signed a one-year renewable first-look agreement with noted Mexican production company Lemon Films. The announcement was made today by Juan Manuel Borbolla and Leonardo Zimbron, General Manager of Warner Bros. Pictures International, Mexico and Director of Local Productions, Warner Bros. Pictures International, Mexico, respectively.
The agreement enables Warner Bros. to co-produce and distribute Lemon Films’ Mexican-made Spanish-language films in Mexico and possibly other countries. No specific titles have been announced at this time.
In a joint statement, Borbolla and Zimbron said “We are pleased to expand our relationships with Mexican filmmakers to include this agreement with Lemon Films. We look forward to working with Billy and Fernando Rovzar and with their creative team.”
In 2004, Lemon Films released "Matando Cabos," a dark comedy about a kidnapping gone awry; it became Mexico’s highest-grossing Mexican film of the year and was screened at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival. Their upcoming Film, the psychological thriller "Km.31" (Kilometro 31), will be released in October, 2006.
“This new agreement with Warner Bros. represents an excellent opportunity for us to enhance our presence in Mexico through an alliance with a major entertainment company,” said Billy and Fernando Rovzar in a joint statement. “We anticipate a long and satisfying relationship that offers mutual benefits.”
