Warner Bros. Online And America Online Premiere New Daily Series, "So L.A.," Exclusively On AOL Broadband
(October 24, 2002 - Glendale, CA and Dulles, VA) - Warner Bros. Online and America Online, Inc., the world's largest interactive services company, today announced the exclusive premiere of the new episodic real-life action drama from Warner Bros. Online, "So L.A." on AOL Broadband for 12 days, October 26 through November 6, 2002.
AOL Broadband members will be the first to view this exclusive run of "So L.A.," a new Warner Bros. Online series consisting of 14 seven-minute episodes that follows a group of young 20-somethings through the dizzying highs and tragic lows of life (and low-lifes) in Los Angeles. The series' unique format combines a soap opera-style script with reality show production, and features a full ensemble cast of actors. Although "So L.A." is fictional, producers were able to maintain the reality television feel by scripting a basic story line but allowing the actors to improvise actual dialogue.
The first three episodes of "So L.A." will premiere on AOL Broadband on October 26. A new episode will premiere each day through November 6, when the series completes its run on AOL Broadband. The program will be promoted in rotation across the AOL Broadband service, and viewers will also be able to locate it on-demand through AOL Keyword: So L.A. After the series completes its run, Warner Bros. Online will make it available through www.warnerbros.com and www.solatheshow.com on November 7, 2002.
In addition to viewing a new episode in the series each day, AOL Broadband members have the opportunity to view additional programming, view deleted scenes, access character photos and bios, chat online with other viewers, and participate in a number of unique polls posted on Keyword: So L.A. each day.
"We think the inherent interactive nature of the Internet lends itself to this type of 'guilty-pleasure' entertainment and enhances the audience's experience," said Warner Bros. Online Senior Vice President and General Manager Jim Noonan. "Although it was shot inexpensively, the production quality is terrific and we're confident 'So L.A.' will develop a big following online. We're very happy to be working closely with America Online to premiere 'So LA,' and we are excited that they share our enthusiasm about the property."
"So L.A. is a great example of the unique and interactive programming AOL Broadband strives to offer members," said Carlos Silva, Vice President of Broadband Programming. "Warner Bros. Online designed ‘So L.A.’ specifically for the online medium; giving our members the exclusive opportunity to enjoy quality entertainment each day, and follow the series through to completion in just under two weeks. It only requires seven minutes a day - from a desktop at work, a home PC or virtually anywhere - and offers members the opportunity to be entertained or to become fully engaged in the series and its characters by participating in chats, polls and online community activities."
"I commend Warner Bros. Online and AOL Broadband for embracing the value of online delivery of narrative entertainment," said "So L.A." producer David Pritchard. "I believe the format and quality of 'So L.A.' will clearly demonstrate the way serial entertainment might integrate with online delivery."
