Warner Bros. Pictures’ Publicity Executive John Dartigue To Retire
(April 24, 2001 – Burbank, CA) – After 22 years of service, John Dartigue, Vice President of Publicity, Warner Bros. Pictures, will retire from his position on June 30. The announcement was made today by Brad Ball, President, Domestic Theatrical Marketing, Warner Bros. Pictures.
“Throughout his distinguished career at Warner Bros. Pictures, John supervised publicity campaigns for many of our most significant films,” Ball said. “His leadership, expertise and impressive filmmaker relationships made him a highly respected and invaluable member of our team. The body of work and caliber of films John oversaw speak for themselves. We will miss him greatly, and wish him the very best in his future pursuits.”
During his tenure with the company, Dartigue supervised the publicity campaigns on such projects as “The Perfect Storm,” the “Batman,” “Ace Ventura” and “Mad Max” movies, “The Fugitive,” “Interview with the Vampire,” “Malcolm X,” “The Green Mile,” “The Color Purple,” “New Jack City,” “Blade Runner,” “GoodFellas,” “The Mission,” “Dead Calm,” “Nuts,” “The Witches of Eastwick,” “Wild Wild West,” “Caddyshack,” “10,” “Arthur,” “The Accidental Tourist,” “The Pelican Brief,” “Presumed Innocent” and “The Pledge.”
Prior to joining Warner Bros. Pictures, he was employed by United Artists, in New York, from 1965 to 1978, holding various positions in the publicity department before becoming Director of Publicity in 1975 and Vice President of Advertising & Publicity in 1978. He supervised the publicity campaigns for the company's three back-to-back Best Picture Oscar-winning films – “One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest,”
“Rocky” and “Annie Hall” – as well as on “Network,” “Carrie,” “New York, New York” and “Coming Home.” He also worked on the Academy Award winners “Midnight
Cowboy” and “In the Heat of the Night,” “Women in Love,” “Last Tango in Paris,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Lenny” and the Clint Eastwood-Sergio Leone Westerns, as well as films by Truffaut, Fellini and Bergman, and all the Beatles, Woody Allen and James Bond pictures of the period.
Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Dartigue received a B.A. in English and American Literature from Brandeis University and an M.A. in Public Law & Government from Columbia University. # # #
