Warner Bros. Pictures’ "The Whole Nine Yards" Opens At No. 1 With B.O. Of $15.9 Million
(February 22, 2000 – Burbank, CA) - Warner Bros. Pictures’ new hit comedy “The Whole Nine Yards” opened over the four-day Presidents Day holiday weekend as the nation’s No. 1 movie with gross box-office receipts of $15,915,676, it was announced today by Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution for Warner Bros. Pictures.
“The Whole Nine Yards” reported strong returns in all regions of North America, and the top-grossing theaters were Loews Lincoln Square at $65,320, New York’s United Artists Union Square with $48,588, the AMC Mercado in Santa Clara, Calif., at $48,199 and Montreal’s Famous Players Paramount with $46,636.
“The picture played extremely well to all audiences throughout the United States and Canada,” Fellman said. “Leading the charge were New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles, and a multiple of cities across Canada.”
“We congratulate Franchise Pictures and its Chairman and CEO, Elie Samaha,” continued Fellman, who noted that “The Whole Nine Yards” is the first of many in a series of high-profile films Franchise will release through Warner Bros. Among them are “Battlefield Earth,” starring John Travolta, “Get Carter,” starring Sylvester Stallone, “The Art of War,” starring Wesley Snipes, “3,000 Miles to Graceland,” starring Kevin Costner and Kurt Russell, and “The Pledge,” starring Jack Nicholson, with Sean Penn directing.
“The Whole Nine Yards” stars Bruce Willis, Matthew Perry and Academy Award-nominee for Best Supporting Actor Michael Clarke Duncan (“The Green Mile”).
Morgan Creek Productions and Franchise Pictures present Bruce Willis and Matthew Perry in “The Whole Nine Yards,” a comedy about life, love and plenty of ammunition. Directed by Jonathan Lynn and written by Mitchell Kapner, “The Whole Nine Yards” also stars Rosanna Arquette, Natasha Henstridge, Amanda Peet, Kevin Pollak and Harland Williams. The film is produced by David Willis and Allan Kaufman and executive produced by Elie Samaha and Andrew Stevens. The creative behind-the-scenes team is led by Director of Photography David Franco, production designer David L. Snyder, costume designer Edi Giguere and editor Tom Lewis. The co-producers are Don Carmody, James Holt and Tracee Stanley, and line producer is Mike Drake. Music is by Randy Edelman and Casting by Nancy Naylor.
