Warner Bros. Pictures International to Distribute in France, Spain and Latin America the Argentinean Film “Relatos Salvajes” from Filmmaker Damián Szifron, Selected to Compete for the Top Prize at this Year’s Cannes Film Festival
(May 5, 2014 – Burbank, CA) – “Relatos Salvajes” (“Wild Tales”), a multi-layered cinematic adventure from acclaimed Argentinean filmmaker Damián Szifron (“El Fondo Del Mar/Bottom of the Sea,” “Tiempo de Valientes/On Probation”), has been selected to screen in competition for the Palme D’Or at the 67th Cannes Film Festival. Warner Bros. Pictures International has retained rights to distribute the film in France and Spain, in addition to Latin America. “Relatos Salvajes” will be released August 14, 2014 in Argentina, with other markets to follow.
Written and directed by Szifron, “Relatos Salvajes” is a visual spectacle that tells a darkly comic story of tragedy, love, deception, the past, and the violence lurking beneath the surface of the everyday. Finding themselves vulnerable to volatile and unpredictable shifts in reality, the characters of “Relatos Salvajes” are pushed toward the abyss and into the undeniable pleasure of losing control, crossing the thin line that divides civilization from brutality. The film is produced by Hugo Sigman, Pedro Almodóvar and Agustín Almodóvar, with Matías Mosteirin and Esther García Rodriguez serving as executive producers.
“Damián Szifron is one of the most exciting filmmakers to emerge from the thriving filmmaking community in Argentina, and we are confident that his bold and entertaining new film will have universal appeal on both sides of the Atlantic,” said Monique Esclavissat, Executive Vice President, Europe and Latin America Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures International. “We also congratulate Damián and his team of actors and collaborators on being part of the exclusive lineup competing for the Palme d’Or.”
“Relatos Salvajes” stars Ricardo Darín (“Tesis sobre un homicidio/Thesis on a Homicide”), Oscar Martínez (“El Nido Vacío/Empty Nest”), Leonardo Sbaraglia (“Intacto”), Darío Grandinetti (“Talk to her”), Rita Cortese (“Viudas/Widows”), Erica Rivas (“Tetro”) and Julieta Zylberberg (“Un novio para mi mujer/A Boyfriend for My Wife”). Gustavo Santaolalla (“Amores Perros,” “Motorcycle Diaries,” “Babel”) composed the score.
Filmed on location in Buenos Aires, Salta and Jujuy, “Relatos Salvajes” is a co-production of Argentina’s Kramer & Sigman Films, Pedro Almodóvar and Agustín Almodóvar's El Deseo and Warner Bros. Pictures International.
The Cannes Film Festival will be held on May 14-25 in Cannes, France.
