Warner Bros. Pictures Pacts With Maria B. Campbell Associates
(March 1, 2000 – Burbank, CA) - Warner Bros. Pictures has retained the services of literary consulting firm Maria B. Campbell Associates, it was announced today by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Warner Bros. Pictures President of Worldwide Production. The New York-based company will serve as Warner Bros. Pictures’ literary representative.
Maria B. Campbell Associates has distinguished itself as a pre-eminent international book scout and has a roster of 16 clients that includes Germany’s Berlin Verlag, Blessing Verlag and Der Spiegel; the United Kingdom’s Little, Brown; Japan’s Kodansha; and Italy’s Mondadori.
The appointment underscores the continued importance of literary works to Warner Bros. Pictures. “We are very happy to welcome Maria to the Warner Bros. family,” di Bonaventura said. “Her reputation in the literary world is stellar, and her judgment, contacts and relationships will prove invaluable to us in gathering the finest properties that can be made into feature films for Warner Bros. Pictures.”
“Literary adaptations have become increasingly important to film studios,” said Maria Campbell, founder and president of Maria B. Campbell Associates. “Our role will be to take advantage of our extensive contacts with authors, publishers and agents to secure exceptional books that can be translated effectively to the screen.”
Campbell’s team has long been affiliated with Amblin Entertainment, DreamWorks SKG and Kennedy Marshall, spotting such best-selling books as “Jurassic Park,” “The Bridges of Madison County” and the recently released “A Map of the World,” as well as more offbeat titles such as “How to Make an American Quilt.” # # #
