Warner Home Video Debuts Mini-DVD
(November 17, 2004 – Burbank, CA) - Warner Home Video (WHV) announced today the introduction of Mini-DVD for the consumer marketplace and a new personal Mini-DVD player from CyberHome that will enable consumers to enjoy DVD with unprecedented portability and ease. Slightly larger than the size of a portable video game player, the Mini-DVD is designed as an evolution in personal DVD enjoyment that will create new opportunities for consumers, young and old, to enjoy the same great video and audio quality of DVD more conveniently than ever before.
“WHV has always been at the vanguard of home video innovation both in terms of content and technology. Mini-DVD is a natural progression of our traditional leadership in the industry,” said Jim Cardwell, President, WHV. “CyberHome’s Mini-DVD player allows consumers to fit the image and sound quality of DVD into the palm of their hands. There has never been an easier way to take your favorite Warner Bros. movies, TV shows and video entertainment with you, wherever you and your family goes.” he added.
The players and their mini-discs feature the same superior DVD quality and Dolby 5.1 sound (if available) of conventional DVD. The CyberHome player has built in speakers and comes with headphones, a rechargeable battery, AC adapter and a cradle charger and will retail for under $120.00.
The mini-discs are compatible with all standard DVD players so that they can be enjoyed in the home as well as in Mini-DVD players. “Our partnership with WHV has enabled us to design and deliver a portable DVD player which will give consumers even more ways to enjoy the enormously popular DVD format,” said Scott Burgess, Senior Vice President of Sales for CyberHome Entertainment.
Mini-DVD is being introduced in select markets and retailers in December. Nearly 30 titles from the Warner Home Video library, including such hits as “Scooby Doo II: Monsters Unleashed” and “A Cinderella Story” as well as sports titles, movies and television programming will be available on mini-disc.
As an introductory offer consumers receive three free Mini-DVDs with purchase of a select Mini-DVD player. “Scooby Doo: Original Mysteries” will be in-packed in specially-marked CyberHome Mini-DVD players. Consumers can receive two additional Mini-DVDs by mail from a selection of five.
The company expects to launch Mini-DVD nationally in March 2005 with a national media and promotional campaign. More than fifty Mini-DVD titles will be available with a suggested retail prices ranging from $9.98-$24.98.
