The WB's "Popstars 2" Reveals The Six Members Of The New Pop Music Group
(November 30, 2001 – Burbank, CA) - It began with a nationwide search that drew thousands of men and women between the ages of 18-25 and last night on The WB's “POPSTARS 2” six lucky and talented unknowns survived grueling cuts week after week to be given the chance to live out their dream of being a pop star.
The household ratings for last night's special one-hour broadcast were the highest for the program this season in the metered markets (3.7/5 HH rating/share) and equaled its season high in the national ratings (2.0/3 HH rating/share). Last night's program was particularly strong in its core demographic of female teens, scoring an outstanding 4.0/12 in that key demo to rank #2 for the night, trailing only "Friends" and tying "E.R."
Those who withstood the intense competitive pressure include a versatile mix of young men and women with the raw talent, star quality and passion necessary for the extremely competitive music world. The six members are:
• Monika Christian, 20, of Hyattsville, MD
• Laurie Gidosh, 20, of Hazlet, NJ
• Donavan Green, 23, of Baltimore, MD
• Josh Henderson, 20, of Dallas, TX
• Moi Juarez, 20, of Torrance, CA
• Dorothy Szamborska, 20, of Bayside, NY The group's debut album is scheduled to be in stores on December 11, 2001 from London-Sire Records. The enhanced CD will include the group's first single "I Really Don't Think So" along with interactive components and several songs from the auditions to recreate the “POPSTARS 2” experience. Backed by some of the hottest producers and songwriters in the music business, the six chosen young men and women in next week's episode move into a house in Los Angeles together and begin working as a professional group. They soon discover that living and working with virtual strangers is tougher than any of them could have imagined. The experience becomes too much for one of the members and just as the group begins to come together, a crisis hits and that person is forced to leave. The remaining five members pull together and become stronger despite their loss. Their days are filled with all the hard work that goes into the making of a successful pop group including advanced vocal training, demanding dance rehearsals, styling makeovers and publicity photo shoots. In the coming weeks on the show, the group will pick a name for themselves, record their first CD, make their first music video and perform a live concert in front of fans and the media in Hollywood that will air as the season finale on The WB on January 3, 2002. “POPSTARS 2” is a Stone Stanley Entertainment Production. London-Sire's current roster includes Eden's Crush, All Saints, Pet Shop Boys, Mandy Barnett, Guster and Morcheeba.# # #
