3rd Annual Supergirl Pro Junior Hits The Beach At Oceanside August 14
(August 9, 2010 – Los Angeles) – This weekend, the 3rd Annual Supergirl Pro Junior surf contest hits Oceanside Beach, California, with the richest purse in ASP Women’s Pro Junior history. Embodying the strength of DC Comics’ iconic hero, SUPERGIRL, sixteen of the best 20-year-old-and-under female surfers in the world will be competing for the $10,000 top prize in this Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Grade-4 contest. Offering a total purse of $21,000, the Supergirl Pro Junior is the second event in the 2010 Supergirl Jam event series, the action sports industry’s largest all-female competition and lifestyle festival, featuring more than 100 female pros in surfing, skateboarding, inline skating and snowboarding. The first event in the series, the Supergirl Am Jam took place June 30, at Simi Valley, California’s Skatelab and honored the best amateur female skateboard street athletes.
Showcasing the industry’s best young female talent, this year’s Supergirl Pro Junior contest includes athletes who rank amongst the top in women’s surfing today. The field in Oceanside, CA will include surfing stars like last weekend’s 2010 Women’s U.S. Open Winner, Carissa Moore (Honolulu, HI); 2009 ASP Women’s World Tour Rookie of the Year and 2008 Supergirl Pro Junior Champion, Coco Ho (Oahu, HI); and 2009 Supergirl Pro Junior silver medalist and 2008 Women’s U.S. Open Champion, Malia Manuel (Kauai, HI), as well as 13 additional up-and-coming pros. Ho and Moore are the top-ranked juniors in the field and currently sit seventh and eighth respectively in the ASP Women’s World Tour global rankings.
New to this year’s event is the Supergirl Shootout. Those ladies not advancing to the finals will be able to compete in a best trick contest designed to highlight their most progressive moves for $1,000 in bonus prize money.
In celebration of the popularity of the Supergirl Jam event series, the Supergirl Pro Junior will be streamed live via a multitude of prominent action sports websites to include: ASP.com, BNQT.com, ESPN.com, Foxsports.com, Freescaster.com, GrindTV.com, Surfline.com, Supergirl.com and SupergirlJam.com, the official online destination for the 2010 Supergirl Jam events and results.
