“The Ellen Degeneres Show” Kicks Off “Ellen For The Cure” For Breast Cancer Awareness Month
(October 2, 2009 – Burbank, CA) - “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” begins Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Thursday, October 1st by kicking off the ELLEN FOR THE CURE campaign, which will benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure® for the fourth year in a row. The show has raised over 1.6 million dollars and will continue its efforts this year. For the entire month of October the show will raise funds to help find a cure.
During the entire month celebrity guests as well as brave audience members will volunteer to sit in the dunk tank as Ellen tries to dunk them. Every dunk will raise $10,000 for “ELLEN FOR THE CURE” courtesy of Clarisonic Skin care.
This special episode will include an emotional performance depicting a woman’s struggle with breast cancer by Melissa Sandig and Ade Obayomi from “So You Think You Can Dance.” Also joining Ellen, actress Kate Walsh whose mother is a breast cancer survivor.
Throughout the month the show will giveaway “Pink” products with a percentage of the proceeds going to Breast Cancer research. The giveaways include, New Balance ”Special Pink Edition” running shoes, Oreck XL Vacuum system, Clarisonic Skin Care System, Cuisinart Coffee Maker, IHome Headphones, IHome 3 in 1 Netbook Accessory Kit, a Helen Ficalora necklace and more.
The show has also created specially designed “Ellen” t-shirts, sweatshirts, blankets and mugs, which are available for purchase on www.ellentv.com. All proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation via “Ellen for the Cure.” # # #
