(July 13, 2003 – Hollywood, CA) – Hit recording artists Evanescence and Monica will headline a diverse and cutting-edge lineup for the premiere episode of The WB Network’s new music show, “PEPSI SMASH,” which will air Wednesday July 16 at 9:00-10:00 p.m. ET. Joining the two chart-toppers will be musical acts including The Black Eyed Peas, The Ataris and newcomer Gavin DeGraw. The inaugural show will be hosted by actors Gregory Smith and Emily VanCamp, stars of The WB’s critically acclaimed drama “EVERWOOD.” The summer series will feature a rotating series of hosts over the upcoming episodes, including Jessica Biel of The WB’s “7th HEAVEN,” Alyson Hannigan of “American Wedding” and Gabrielle Union of “Bad Boys II.” “The bands will feel a strong connection with the fans on ‘PEPSI SMASH,’ as we’ve tried to create a stage that is comparable to a live concert venue,” said Joel Gallen, the show’s director and executive producer. “And ‘SMASH’ will not only feature the hottest acts in music, but also some of the cooler new ones who we think are about to catch fire, such as Gavin DeGraw.” In addition to performances, “PEPSI SMASH” will feature behind-the-scenes footage and a weekly album countdown called “The Smash 5 Countdown.” The show also promises many exciting impromptu moments, such as when Papa Roach took the stage with The Black Eyed Peas in the premiere episode. In upcoming weeks, the show will also feature Beyoncé Knowles, Queens of the Stone Age, Trapt, Bow Wow, Wilshire, Michelle Branch, Simple Plan, Chingy, Interpol, Foo Fighters, Mya, Jason Mraz, Pharrell with Clipse, Neptunes, Jack Johnson, Rooney, Fabolous, Lil’ Mo and All-American Rejects. “We know how important music is to our audience,” said Jordan Levin, President, Entertainment of The WB Network. “This series is an excellent opportunity for us to extend The WB brand and continue to earn credibility with our audience by working with Joel Gallen, the top music producer in the business, as well as Pepsi, a company known for its use of cutting-edge music and youth appeal.” “PEPSI SMASH” is a one-hour show featuring live musical performances from some of the biggest music artists across all genres in front of a live audience. As many as five groups or artists will perform on each show, and viewers will have the opportunity to see up-close and personal segments with artists backstage, as well as behind-the-scenes footage of artists in the U.S. and around the world. Produced by Mr. Gallen (“America: A Tribute to Heroes,” “MTV Movie Awards,” “The Super Bowl XXXVIII” Halftime Show) of Tenth Planet Productions, the show also will feature a chart rundown.
