Laura Kim Joins Warner Independent Pictures As Executive Vice President, Marketing And Publicity
(August 18, 2003 – Burbank, CA) – Warner Independent Pictures has named publicity veteran Laura C. Kim Executive Vice President, Marketing and Publicity, it was announced today by Mark Gill, President of the Company.
Kim comes to Warner Independent from mPRm Public Relations, where she served as Senior Vice President and oversaw the company’s film practice. Kim will report to Gill, will be responsible for the marketing and publicity of the subsidiary’s theatrical releases, and will play a vital role as part of the subsidiary’s acquisitions efforts at major festivals. She will begin working at Warner Independent Pictures October 6.
“It’s not an accident that Laura is working on at least half of all the good independent films released this year,” Gill said. “She’s brilliant, imaginative, notoriously hard-working and beloved throughout the independent film world.”
“We’re very fortunate to have Laura join us,” said Jeff Robinov, President of Production for Warner Bros. Pictures. “One of the keys to Warner Independent Pictures’ success will be how well we distinguish ourselves from other studios’ releases through our marketing and publicity, and I’m confident that Laura will be a tremendous asset in helping us achieve that goal.”
While at mPRm, where she has been since 1992, Kim has been involved in films such as “Muriel’s Wedding,” “Shine,” “The Sweet Hereafter,” “Happiness,” “Elizabeth,” “Being John Malkovich,” “In The Bedroom,” “Mulholland Drive” and “The Pianist.” Her corporate clients have included Sundance Institute, Good Machine, Strand Releasing, IFP/LA and the Independent Spirit Awards, and the Los Angeles Film Festival, in its first five years. Among the films she has recently been involved with are “Better Luck Tomorrow,” “Capturing the Friedmans,” “Dirty Pretty Things” and “American Splendor.”
Prior to mPRm, Kim worked at Buena Vista Pictures Marketing. She began her career in entertainment as a Warner Bros. College Rep in Boston. # # #
