Warner Bros. Pictures Announces Plans For “Scooby-Doo” Sequel - Stars Of First Movie To Return
(June 20, 2002 – Burbank, CA) – On the heels of a blockbuster $54.2 million nationwide opening for “Scooby-Doo,” Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that it will begin preparations for a second “Scooby-Doo” feature, with the original starring cast returning under the anticipated direction of Raja Gosnell. The announcement was made by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, President of Worldwide Production for Warner Bros. Pictures. The upcoming film will be produced by Mosaic Media Group’s Charles Roven, and by Richard Suckle.
Stars Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard and Linda Cardellini will rejoin their animated co-star, Scooby-Doo, in a screenplay by original scribe James Gunn. Production is expected to begin early next year in Los Angeles for a 2004 release.
Said di Bonaventura, “We promised audiences a summer movie that the whole family could enjoy together, and they responded by coming out and giving us a tremendous opening weekend. Our cast and filmmakers really brought this animated series to life on the big screen, and we feel certain that we’ve got another great Scooby-Doo story to tell in movie theaters two years from now.” # # #
