• Through its first three years of existence, the WBTVG Directors’ Workshop has helped to launch or further the television directing careers of 31 graduates, 28 of whom are women and/or people of color.
• In 2016, 100% of the eight graduating directors were booked to direct episodes of Warner Bros.–produced TV series, with shows including Warner Bros. Television’s “Arrow,” “Blindspot,” “The Flash,” “Lucifer” and “Major Crimes,” as well as Warner Horizon Television’s “Pretty Little Liars.”
• Also in 2016, the WBTVG Directors’ Workshop partnered with Warner Horizon Television, award-winning filmmaker Ava DuVernay and OWN to support six first-time episodic directors as part of DuVernay’s landmark initiative to create an all-female directorial team for the acclaimed hit drama series “Queen Sugar,” which was renewed for a second season before its first had even premiered.
• Additional current series that have booked graduates from the Directors’ Workshop since 2014 include “The 100,” “Gotham,” “iZOMBIE,” “The Middle” and “Supernatural,” among many others.
The eight-week WBTVG Directors’ Workshop course is taught by esteemed director Bethany Rooney, who has directed more than 300 episodes of network television. The Master Class features guest speakers currently working in television, including an eclectic mix of showrunners, directors, cinematographers and editors. Each session will teach a new skill essential for excelling in pre-production, shooting and post-production. The workshop will also have optional components, with participation determined by each director’s skill set, including cinematography, acting and shadowing.
In addition to the Directors’ Workshop, WBTVG operates the annual Television Writers’ Workshop, which has been the premier program for aspiring TV writers for more than 30 years, with successful alumni including Terence Winter (“Boardwalk Empire,” “The Sopranos,” “The Wolf of Wall Street”), Marc Cherry (“Desperate Housewives”), Greg Garcia (“My Name Is Earl”), Felicia Henderson (“Soul Food”) and many more.
